    Position: Shortstop

College choice: Eastern Connecticut State University

Chosen major: Physical education, I love being around sports and kids, so I thought it'd be perfect.

Athlete you grew up admiring: Derek Jeter

Checking in with Chris: (Addressing his teammates) "Enjoy it while it lasts, have fun, put in the work to get to the next level. You never know when your chance will come and you might only get one so be ready to kill it."

What you need to know about Chris: Malcom lists the highlight of his baseball career as the moment coach Jack Biggs pulled him up to the varsity as a freshman. "It made me the player I am today," he said. And he was most looking forward to "our senior class tearing it up," this spring. Malcom will continue his baseball career at Eastern, where he will join older brother Matt, a catcher, who recently completed his sophomore season. Chris began playing Tee Ball when he was 4 or 5 and eventually stopped playing every other sport so he could focus on baseball. He has been able to work out this spring to stay in shape for college and his favorite restaurant in East Lyme is Lillian's Cafe, where he works. "Everything is good there," he said. "He's a good kid. He'll play anywhere," Biggs said. "He's been starting, as a freshman he played third base for us. A very good leadoff hitter, quick hands, a great team guy, the team leader that you always want. He plays the game hard, he plays the game fast, he plays the game the right way. Hopefully he continues at Eastern." At East Lyme, students may take part in a WISE program, which is a course of independent study for juniors and seniors requiring a project. As his senior project, Malcom designed different types of workouts that students could do from home during the recent quarantine. Biggs said Malcom will be perfect as a phys ed teacher. "He's great with little kids, phenomenal with little kids," Biggs said. "As soon as he sees little kids, he walks up to them and high-fives them. He has that tough side, but he's very nurturing. ... It's going to be tough losing him. He was part of our backbone for three years."
