    H.S. roundup: Waterford volleyball team beats Fitch 3-1

    Waterford — Lily Kramer had six kills, five blocks and four aces to help Waterford open the volleyball season with a 3-1 win over Fitch on Thursday.

    Game scores were 25-23, 17-25, 25-22 and 25-22.

    Angela Colonis had 29 assists while Kate Lange had 13 kills and Gabby Kramer seven kills for the Lancers. Marlo Sims had 13 digs and seven aces to lead the Falcons while Alyssa Virtue had nine kills and Rita Sefransky had 18 assists.

    In othe matches:

    • Grace Haydash had 21 aces to propel Ledyard to a sweep of Grasso Tech. Game scores were 25-10, 25-6 and 25-11. Hannah Avila had eight aces and Lavinia Hutchins added five kills for the Colonels. Jazmyn Lopez and Grace Pitko each had four service points for the Eagles.

    • Helen Megson chipped in 15 kills and eight digs in Lyman Memorial's sweep of Montville. Game scores were 25-11, 25-18 and 25-16. Anna Mathewson had 12 digs and seven aces and Kassidy LaTour added 27 assists for Lyman. Anna Kreitlow led the Indians with 12 digs and Maya Hillman had five blocks and Christyna Winstead added three aces.

    • Woodstock Academy swept New London by scores of 25-10, 25-20 and 25-10. Jayden Burns had four digs and two kills for the Whalers and Wennonah Amar added five points and two aces, and Caylee Parker had four points, three blocks and an ace.

    • Ella Freed had 10 kills and Shae McMunn added 13 assists in East Lyme's sweep of Norwich Free Academy. Game scores were 25-18, 25-19 and 26-24.

    • Griswold took all three games from Killingly by scores of 25-16, 25-12 and 25-21. Kuranda Ruggiero led the Wolverines with 22 service points, 19 assists, eight aces and three kills while Olivia Doyle had 13 digs, 10 service points and three aces, Hannah Lynn had nine kills, two digs, one block and one ace, and Kamryn Lathrop finished with five kills and one block.

    • Norwich Tech dropped a 3-2 decision to Putnam. Game scores were 22-25, 17-25, 25-17, 25-23 and 15-9. Paige Phanuef led Norwich Tech with 14 points, 11 digs and six aces and Kaylee Gray had 10 points, 10 digs, five kills and three aces.

    Boys' cross country

    • Old Lyme lost to East Hampton, 17-46, in the Shoreline Conference. Senior Aidan Powers led the Wildcats, placing fifth in 20 minutes, 10 seconds, while junior John Almy took sixth in 20:17.6.

    Swimming

    • Grace Vlaun took first in the 200-yard freestyle (2:08.71) and 100 butterfly (1:05.63) to lead East Lyme past Fitch, 102-67. Nikki Hahn won the 200 IM (2:18.46) and 100 breaststroke (1:12.17) while Grace Xu finished first in the 100 freestyle (1:01.4) and Anna Lu won the 500 freestyle (5:37.17) for the Vikings. Delaney Reck led the Falcons with wins in the 50 freestyle (26.08) and 100 backstroke (1:04.13).

    Field hockey

    • Stonington erupted for three goals in the second half to pull away from Waterford 4-0 on opening night. Hannah Nulick scored all three second-half goals for the Bears, the last two on breakaways, while Ellie Korinek had a goal and an assist, Sandy McGugan assisted on Korinek's goal in the second quarter and goalie Avery Slocum did not have to make a save in earning the shutout.
