    Griswold boys second at Stratton Brook cross country meet

    Simsbury — Griswold High School placed second in the boys’ small school race at Saturday’s Stratton Brook Cross Country Invitational. 

    The Wolverines, who had four runners finish in the top 25, had 78 points to finish behind Tolland, which won the race with 48 points and had the individual winner in Luke Stoeffler, who finished the 5K course in 17 minutes, 36 seconds. 

    Griswold was led by Michael Strain, who finished third overall in 18:26, while brothers Michael Strain and Jacob Strain were sixth and 14th, respectively, in 18:37 and 19:12. Jackson Collins added a 22nd for the Wolverines in 19:37.  

    Old Lyme placed ninth with 218 points led by George Williams’ 28th-place finish (20:10) while Montville was 11th with 237 points as Ranju Iyer was 11th (19:02) and Jack Brehler 25th (19:57), and Lyman Memorial was 12th with 239 points as Grayson Lemay was ninth in 18:55. 

    In the boys’ large school race, Norwich Free Academy was sixth with 174 points (Simsbury won with 57) as Tyler Crabb placed ninth in 17:49 and Ethan Manfredi 10th in 17:50 for the Wildcats. 

    Montville’s Maya Suarez was the top local finisher in the girls’ small school race, placing 10th in 22:22, while Old Lyme was the top local team finisher in fifth place with 116 points (Somers won with 60). Madeleine Morgado was 12th for Old Lyme (22:33) and Gesami Vazquez 16th (23:20). Helen Blakeslee was the top Lyman Memorial finisher (19th, 23:41) while St. Bernard’s Lillian Turner was 37th (25:04).
