Darien No. 1 in The Day's football poll while New London receives votes

The first three weeks of the high school football season have produced little movement in The Day's Top 10 state coaches' poll.

Darien (3-0) is number one, followed by New Canaan (3-0), just as they were after Week 1. Seven of the remaining eight teams have been ranked through all three weeks.

This Friday could change things thanks to a slate of big games, starting in the state’s most brutal division — the Southern Connecticut Conference’s Tier 1. It resumes play after last weekend’s interdivision crossovers and will be highlighted by Xavier (2-1) at No. 3 Shelton (3-0) and Cheshire (3-0) at No. 5 West Haven (3-0).

Fairfield Prep (3-0) also plays host to Notre Dame of West Haven (1-2), which has lost to Shelton and six-time Rhode Island Division I champion Bishop Hendricken.

In other leagues, unbeaten Tolland has won three straight games by shutout, but it hasn't played a team the likes of No. 10 Bloomfield (3-0), which will play host to the Eagles in a Central Connecticut Conference Division III interdivision game.

Cromwell/Portland (2-0), which received a vote, plays at Valley Regional/Old Lyme in what could be a meeting between the Pequot League's best teams.

Unbeaten New Milford takes a big step up in competition as it plays host to No. 8 Newtown in the South-West Conference.

New London (3-0) received votes for the first time this season after thumping Killingly last Friday, 41-7.
