    H.S. roundup: Montville football routs Woodstock Academy 49-6

    Woodstock — Montville returned two interceptions for touchdowns in the first half and cruised to a 49-6 football victory over Woodstock Academy on Saturday.

    The Indians (2-0) had four interceptions overall, but Chris Connors (85 yards) and Gennaro Davis (58 yards) turned theirs into six points apiece and helped stake Montville to a 35-0 halftime lead.

    Luke Hall threw a 32-yard touchdown pass to Davis and freshman Diego Garces-Cortes was 7-for-7 on extra-point attempts. Nik Angell, who rushed for 80 yards in the first half, had a 62-yard touchdown run and fullback Dasani Vennett scored from two yards out for Montville, who plays at 2-0 Fitch on Friday night.

    "We're happy,'' said Montville coach Tanner Grove. "We've played some pretty good football so far and we didn't get too banged up today. Obviously, we're going to be tested on Friday night.''

    Girls' soccer

    • Norwich Free Academy improved to 3-0 with a 2-0 nonleague victory over Immaculate, last year's Class M state co-champion. Cassidy White, assisted by Abigail Tucker, gave the Wildcats a 1-0 lead in the first half and Kayla Park's breakaway goal with six minutes left provided some insurance. Goalie Allyson Knorr-Anderson earned the shutout with 14 saves.

    • Maddie Ouellette scored a pair of goals as unbeaten Old Lyme defeated Griswold in a nonleague game. Ciara Klimaszewski, Mya Johnson, Bianca Tinnerello and Julia Smith also scored goals for the Wildcats (4-0) while Maddie Zrenda added an assist and goalies Emily Rivera and Emma McCulloch cominbed for three saves.

    • Karlie Rowe scored three goals as East Lyme built a 3-0 halftime lead and cruised to a 5-0 victory over Waterford. Alivia Catanzaro added a goal and three assists for the Vikings (2-2) while Kayla Markovitz scored a goal and goalie Hayley Sorrentino stopped four shots. Skyler Henry made 11 saves for the Lancers (1-3).

    • Chariho (R.I.) defeated Fitch 3-2 in the championship game of the inaugural Josh Piver Cup at Stonington High School. In the consolation game, Westerly defeated Stonington 2-1. Jessica Detwiler, assisted by Lainnie Connor, scored in the first half for the Bears (1-4).

    • Camryn Werbinski scored a pair of goals as Williams School played Harvey School to a 2-2 draw. Katia Bourganos assisted on the first goal while goalie Olivia Guinan made seven saves.

    Boys' soccer

    • Harrison Hoops scored a pair of goals as unbeaten Stonington won the inaugural Josh Piver Cup with a 3-0 victory over Fitch in the championship match. Tyler Fidrych added a goal and an two assists for the Bears (5-0), who handed the Falcons (2-1-1) their first loss.

    • Hyde School of Maine defeated Williams 5-2. Jacob Marchesi converted a penalty kick for the Blues while Alec Potts curled a corner kick into the net for the second goal.

    • Ian Kamperschroer and Fabian May scored two goals apiece while Nate McCracken added a goal and two assists to lead Ledyard past Innovation 6-0 in a nonleague game on Friday. Chris Charette added one goal and one assist for the Colonels while Trevor Hutchins and Xander Hutchins each had an assist.

    Field hockey

    • Waterford beat Old Saybrook 3-0 in a nonleague game, scoring all its goals in the second half. Michelle Linicus, Kaylee Swansen and Molly Quiles had goals, Cassidy Susi had an assist and Lili Stoddard made seven saves for the Lancers (2-1).

    • Zoe Foldesi's goal in the second half lifted St. Joseph to a 1-0 victory over Fitch/Ledyard in a nonleague game. Erin Ritter made 13 saves in goal for the Falcons (1-3).

    Girls' cross country

    • Fitch finished 15th out of 17 teams in the Bobcat Inviational at Madbury, N.H. Julia Adrian was the Falcons' top finisher, coming in 18th in a time of 21:22.
