    H.S. roundup: East Lyme beats Fitch in ECC D-I volleyball showdown

    Groton — East Lyme won a mid-season matchup of Eastern Connecticut Conference Division I volleyball unbeatens with a 3-0 victory over Fitch on Saturday morning.

    Game scores were 25-18, 25-21 and 25-17.

    Shannon Pierce had 13 kills, Ella Freed 11 kills and Shae McMunn 31 assists for the Vikings (9-2, 2-0) while Annalyn Cahill had 11 kills and Madi Aldinger 16 digs for the Falcons (9-2, 2-1).

    Girls' soccer

    • Morgan converted a pair of goals off corner kicks to defeat Waterford 2-0 in a nonleague game. Mckenzie Gregory made five saves in goal for the Lancers (8-2), who raised $570 in their "Think Pink" game to donate to the Terri Brodeur Foundation for breast cancer research. Morgan is 7-0-3.

    • Katie Pierce scored a pair of goals in the second half as Wheeler defeated Griswold 2-0. Hayden Bresnan sent a long pass for Pierce, who scored on a breakaway for her first goal and Brooke Dowrey assisted on the second one. Lauren Glaza, playing her first game in goal, made eight saves for the Lions (4-4). Griswold is 1-9.

    Boys' soccer

    • Montville and Lyman Memorial played to a 1-1 overtime draw in an ECC Division III match. Colby Cowan, assisted by Benjamin Godburn, scored for the Indians (5-2-1, 2-0-1) while Thomas Cardinali scored an unassisted goal for the Bulldogs (2-4-3, 1-1-2). Montville goalie Adonis Santiago made three saves and Lyman's Josh Person stopped seven shots.

    • Sam Montalto had three goals and two assists as No. 5 Stonington scored all of its goals in the first half of a 9-1 nonleague win over Old Lyme. Will Sawin added two goals and an assist for the Bears (9-1) while John Cannella, Jesse Pacheco and Wynn Hammond each had one goal and one assist, Connor Tavares scored a goal and Ryan Orr had one assist. Old Lyme is 2-8.

    Field hockey

    • Keana Criscuolo's goal in the third quarter (Olivia Schmidt assisted) lifted North Branford to a 1-0 nonleague victory over Stonington. The Bears (8-2) held a 6-4 edge in shots and 10-1 in penalty corners but could get the ball past goalie Sam Helwig of North Branford (8-1-2), who made four saves. Avery Slocum and Madi Allard combined for three saves in goal for Stonington. 

    • Fitch and Waterford battled to a scoreless overtime draw in an ECC match. The Falcons are 6-2-1, 4-1-1 and the Lancers are 2-6-2, 1-4-2.

    Swimming

    • Ledyard lost to Haddam-Killingworth 94.5-68.5 in a nonleague meet on Friday. Robin Zemlo had a pair of second-place finishes for Ledyard (0-6).
