Lockheed buys politicians, Connecticut gets fleeced

Is there a benefit when taxes are waived for a corporation for simply staying put, “Deals of necessity to keep defense-industry jobs,” (Sept. 25)? The benefits from such tax gifts are generally unknown says the Pew Charitable Trust. A bill to cure that was vetoed by Gov. Dannel P. Malloy on June 7. So who has benefited?

OpenSecrets.org, tells us that Lockheed Martin contributors gave $10,000 to Rep. John Larson, $6,000 to Sen. Richard Blumenthal, and $1,000 to Sen. Christopher Murphy (not even running this year) plus another $10,000 to “Murphpac,” affiliate Chris Murphy, and $10,000 to “Synergy Pac,” affiliate John Larson. Larson's campaign chest is well over $1.2 million compared to near zero for his Republican rival.

According to Politico, Hillary Clinton’s donations from Lockheed Martin employees are two-to-one over Donald Trump this year, reversing their usual party preference. Clinton, you know, is the putative next employer of our governor, unpopular with everyone except, apparently, Clinton.

Lockheed Martin gets millions in tax relief. Key Democrats, thousands in donations, and a paid for job in Washington.

What did Connecticut get? Malloy said it right. Connecticut got a stool.
