    Recall past loyalty pledge

The leader of a European country required all officers and soldiers of the armed forces as well as all civil servants to take an oath of allegiance to himself. The oath, referred to as Reichswehreid, pledged personal loyalty to him in place of loyalty to the Constitution of their country and this was the law of the land from 1934 until 1945.

Feel free to draw any parallels to recent events you care to about this matter. Furthermore, feel free to decide not to ponder on this matter at all. It is a free country, after all, even to violate clauses contained in our own Constitution for your own personal enrichment.
