For anyone who has been following the news about the Connecticut Port Authority having awarded a multi-million dollar contract to Gateway for the operation of State Pier in New London there is a grassroots effort starting to form to ensure the New London taxpayer gets some consideration in the port's operation. I’ve read in The Day that Mayor Passero is not pleased the city has been shut out of any deliberations, input, or financial benefit as the host community if Orsted is serious about using State Pier in its offshore wind program. 

There is a meeting planned by Kevin Blacker, who has filed a Freedom of Information complaint regarding lack of public disclosure of the process of awarding the contract, to discuss the issue and what the general public might do to stake a claim for New London's interest. 

The meeting is Monday, Jan. 21 at 5:30 pm at the Custom House on Bank Street. This is a very important issue that the public cannot just sit by and watch happen without taking some action.
