A 38-year-old Baltic woman has been charged with murdering her 60-year-old mother on July 9, 1993.

Irene Reynolds, of 26 West Main St., was charged this morning. She was held on a $2 million bond and will be arraigned Monday in Superior Court in Norwich.

According to the office of the Chief State's Attorney, Bertha Reynolds, who had adopted Irene, was found brutally beaten in her home at 84 Laurel Hill Ave. in Norwich on July 9, 1993. The arrested warrant obtained by the Southeastern Connecticut Cold Case Unit is sealed and no additional details are available.

A family friend found Mrs. Reynolds' body at the foot of the basement stairs in the three-family home where she lived. The medical examiner ruled that she died of blunt head trauma and ligature strangulation.

Norwich police continued to investigate the crime over the years, and in 1994, then-Gov. Lowell Weicker offered a $10,000 reward for information on the crime. The reward was increased last year to $50,000.
