Constance Kristofik has been named the new executive director of New London Landmarks, the board of directors announced Wednesday.

Kristofik will take over as head of the historic preservation organization in mid September. Sandra Kersten Chalk, who has been with Landmarks for 10 years, is retiring.

Chalk said she will work with Kristofik during the next several weeks to ensure a smooth transition.

As an undergraduate, Kristofik studied historic preservation, majoring in public administration at Roger Williams University in Providence. She also has volunteered for Historic Bethlehem (Pennsylvania), doing architectural research for Burnside Plantation.

She moved to New London in 2006 and participated in the Neighborhood Academy in 2007. She has worked in the development offices at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital and Connecticut College.

Kristofik received a master's degree in public administration from the University of New Haven in 2010.

She is the founder and president of OutCT, a newly formed group in southeastern Connecticut that supports the local LGBT community. The group held its first event, Gay Day, earlier this month at Ocean Beach Park.
