Preston to receive state funds for school security improvements
Preston will receive $225,734 in reimbursement for the $415,792 in extensive school security improvements done over the summer and this fall.
Superintendent John Welch said that corresponds to the formula announced earlier this year by state officials that called for Preston to receive 54.29 percent reimbursement.
“It’s apparent that our grant application was approved in its entirety,” Welch said. “The Preston Board of Education is delighted with this news. It is especially noteworthy that the board effectuated the security improvements at both schools from its (2012-13) operating budget.”
Preston school security improvements included new double-door entrances at the two schools, installations of protective films on windows, cameras and communication systems and improved hinges on interior doors.
