Last week John S. Johnson, right, chairman of the Connecticut Maritime Heritage Festival, presented the former interim director of the UConn Avery Point Campus, Dr. Joseph Madaus, with a certificate of appreciation for his support of the festival and for his work on behalf of the university’s maritime studies programs at the Groton campus. Madaus spent a year at the local campus and is now back at Storrs. (Bruce MacDonald)
