Dave Putnam of East Lyme and Roberta “Bobbie” Ziegra of Salem were recently recognized for their community work at the Lions Club District 23C annual banquet.

State Sen. Paul Formica, R-East Lyme, and state Rep. Holly Cheeseman, R-East Lyme, presented citations to Putnam and Ziegra, who received Humanitarian of the Year awards from the club.

Putnam, director of the East Lyme Parks and Recreation Department since 2005, was recognized for his work for creating recreation opportunities for special needs children with the Miracle League of Connecticut and Challenger Basketball Program.

He has also served as coordinator of the East Lyme Youth Coalition and is a former president of the Niantic Rotary Club.

Ziegra, a dietician who has served the Veterans Administration and the State of Connecticut, was recognized for her work with the Girl Scouts and Salem Library, including raising money to take her troop to the International Girl Scout Camp in Mexico and serving on the hospitality committee of the library Friends.

She also coordinated the Salem Lions Tag Sale for several years at her home.
