Editor's note: This version corrects an earlier story that incorrectly reported that state aid to the town decreased in the 2018-19 budget.    

Stonington -- The approved 2018-19 state budget contained some good news for the town as it calls for just a small decrease in the education aid that the town now receives.

And with the addition of a $218,992 municipal stabilization grant, a new form of state aid, the town's overall state aid will increase $38,214 to $2,058,283 in 2018-19.    

The budget calls for the town to receive $1,304,052 in state education aid, a decrease of $74,790, according to information compiled by the Connecticut Conference of Municipalities. It also calls for the town to receive $129,669 in local capital improvement aid, a decrease of $74,095. It also eliminated the $31,251 that the town receives in the current budget in Pequot-Mohegan impact aid.

The 2018-19 budget approved by residents last week estimated the town would receive $700 less in education than what was approved by the General Assembly. It also assumed the town would lose its Pequot-Mohegan aid. The aid has no effect on the tax rate approved as part of the budget adoption.
