In the Times: We want to hear your stories

We want more stories about you. And we’re betting you do, too.

You may have noticed that we’ve added a ton of new features to the paper in the last year or so. Some have taken off (Kindness in Real Life), while others are still waiting for full flight (Be An Angel, Out & About). But what you need to know is that we’re reaching out for you to contribute in hopes we will develop a more local, interesting vibe.

My biggest bit of advice: Don’t be modest. If you or your kids (or parents) have done something interesting, different or are in transition, we want to know.

Send us a little blurb — doesn’t have to be long, perhaps just a photo and caption describing the news. One mom recently sent a photo and snippet about the fact both of her kids had won the same prestigious scholarship just a few years apart.

    That’s great. We want more.

We’ve run pieces on teachers winning fellowships, office managers retiring and people getting promoted to new positions.

All this is wonderful news. We want to know what our Friends & Neighbors are up to, which is why we have a new feature that has been appearing most weeks in many of our eight Times papers.

We are trying to get out in the community as much as possible. Just in the past couple weeks, I attended the first SCORE networking session at Tony D’s restaurant in New London for people looking to start or expand businesses; took a photo of John Seckla at his Old Lyme barbershop, which is celebrating its 85th year in business; gave a little talk at a history panel discussion in Groton to promote The Day’s Recorded History podcast; and attended the Bacchanalia festivities at the gorgeous Hygienic Art Park.

But I can’t be everywhere. So we need you to send us information at times@theday.com. We love photos, too!

So go ahead and brag a little. We’re all ears.
