Groton Utilities kicks off electric vehicle rebate program

Groton — Groton Utilities this week announced it recently jumpstarted a pilot rebate program for customers who purchase plug-in electric vehicles.

The program will see a $2,000 rebate go to the first 20 electric vehicles purchased by Groton Utilities and Bozrah Light and Power customers. Additionally, the first 20 electric vehicle leases by customers of either utility can receive a $1,000 rebate.

Groton Utilities said the rebates are in addition to a $7,500 federal tax credit and a $2,000 state grant. Cardinal Honda and Girard Nissan also offer rebates on qualifying models.

The program also provides a rebate up to $600 for an approved Level 2 charging station.

To be eligible, customers must provide a copy of their most current utility bill, proof of purchase of either an electric hybrid plug-in vehicle or an electric plug-in vehicle, proof of a dedicated 240-volt circuit installed by a state-licensed electrician, an electrical permit signed off by a governing building inspector and the customer must pass a Groton Utilities post-installation inspection.
