Westerly — High waves crash as Brendan Cavanaugh of Old Lyme walks along the rocks Thursday in the Weekapaug section of town.

Cavanaugh decided to visit the area with his girlfriend, Jocelyn Kovia of Scotland, when they heard how big the waves were. "I've been out here a lot but this is the craziest I've ever seen the water," Kovia said.

According to reports, swells reached up to 10 feet on Thursday afternoon.
