North Stonington student featured in state talent competition

Amber Hawk, a 12-year-old North Stonington resident, was one of 15 Connecticut finalists in the national Celebration of Music talent competition who competed Sunday, Nov. 3, at the Bushnell Center for Performing Arts in Hartford. The contest features musicians and dancers ages 4-25, with the top two in each state’s competition vying for a spot on the national show with pianist Ethan Bortnick.

Hawk was not selected to go to the national round, but she performed “We are the World” with Bortnick and the rest of the Connecticut contestants at the show.

Hawk, a seventh-grader, has enjoyed singing since first grade and can be heard singing songs ranging from show tunes and gospel to Evanescence. She is a member of her school’s chorus, band and drama club.

When asked why she wanted to enter the concert, she said in a release, “I have never been in a competition before and I thought this would be a great opportunity and challenge for me.”
