Literary Types: Writing about her passion for horses

East Lyme resident Patti Brooks is the author of five books and has been published in several equine magazines: Horseman’s Yankee, Pedlar, The Equine Journal and Horse. She was first published in a magazine at age 16 and was featured in Good Housekeeping in the late 1990s.

Her book “Mountain Shadow” addresses tuberculosis, and her trilogy includes “Fame and Deceit,” “Blood Hoax” and “Ransom Victory,” all of which are set in New England.

Brooks is currently working on two issues a year for Morgan Horse, which is the official breed publication for Morgan horses.

She and her husband once owned 100 Morgan horses on their farm but now own just four.

Her love of horses manifested itself in the form of a charming children’s book called “Cody Cloud Saves the Day.”

“H is for Horse” is a clever non-fiction book for people just becoming familiar with horses. Each letter of the alphabet has a reference to something pertaining to horses and their discipline.

Brooks established the “Who’s Who in the New England Morgandum,” which is a pictorial tour guide to New England’s Morgans. She is currently co-chair of the southeast chapter of the Connecticut Authors and Publishers Association.

    Lisa Shasha lives in Norwich.
