New London — Workers with Montenegro Roofing were using a lift Friday to access the upper floors to repoint the masonry of the exterior of the Custom House on Bank Street.
The building, constructed in 1833 and designed by architect Robert Mills, best known for designing the Washington Monument, was damaged by an earthquake in the 19th century. The gaps in the stonework have grown to a point, according to museum Director Susan Tamulevich, where the masonry issues must be addressed.
