East Lyme High School closed Monday due to COVID-19 case

East Lyme — Superintendent of Schools Jeffrey Newton informed parents Sunday that East Lyme High School will be closed Monday after the school system received a report of a positive COVID-19 case connected to the school.

All high school students will work remotely Monday with plans to resume in-person learning at the high school Tuesday.

He said individuals identified as primary contacts at the high school will be notified by email Monday regarding quarantining measures.

Newton added that discussions with Ledge Light Health District have deemed it safe for students in other schools to return to their buildings Monday. He said that on Saturday the school system completed all contact tracing at East Lyme Middle School and Niantic Center School based on last week’s COVID cases and appropriate measures have been taken.

Newton again is asking parents, students, staff, and families to follow safety protocols while engaging in activities beyond the school day as the new cases are not due to the spread of infection within the schools.
