Positive COVID-19 case specific to East Lyme High School reported Tuesday

East Lyme — The school district was notified Tuesday of a positive COVID-19 case among the East Lyme High School community, Superintendent Jeffrey Newton announced. The high school already is on full distance learning.

Newton had announced last week that the high school was shifting to remote learning Oct. 8-22, after three positive cases were reported.

He wrote Tuesday in a letter to parents and guardians that the new case has no impact on the plan for students to return to the high school on Oct. 22, as well as no impact on other school buildings.

He said contact tracing has started, and primary contacts of the individual will be contacted directly.

“Please continue to be vigilant of any signs of illness or exposure to COVID-19 for you or any member of your family,” Newton wrote. “Your ongoing diligence will help us stay on top of continued transmissions while we safely maneuver through the impact of any further cases that may come forth. If additional COVID-19 infection cases occur, we will continue to act immediately and engage in the steps that need to be taken as it pertains to possible temporary closures and staff/student quarantining.”
