    Only a drill: New London firefighters brush up on water rescue training

    New London firefighters were conducting rescue training with thermal suits Friday in the icy waters of Lake Brandagee in Waterford.

    Every member of the department undergoes refresher training in the techniques and equipment at least annually. Each shift of the department has been out training this week, including three new firefighters who were sworn in recently, according the Battalion Chief Jeffrey Rheaume, whose group was training Friday morning.
