Groton Senior Center to hold Chili Cook Off/Scarecrow Contest

Groton — The Groton Senior Center is having a Chili Cook Off and Scarecrow Contest from 4 to 6 p.m. on Saturday.

"Join us as local EMS services show off their chili making skills, while enjoying scarecrows made by local businesses and members of the community," an event notice states.

The event is open to the community. Police, fire, EMS and area businesses will be participating.

Proceeds will help fund Project Lifesaver, a program that provides first responders and caregivers with a program designed to protect, and when necessary, quickly locate individuals with cognitive impairments such as dementia, traumatic brain injuries, autism and other diagnoses in which people are prone to wandering. The program relies on radio technology and specially trained search and rescue teams to provide timely responses to save lives and reduce injury for adults who wander due to cognitive impairments."

People can register for the event by calling (860) 441-6785, visiting the Groton Senior Center in person, or going online to grotonrec.com.

The cost is $10 per person, and $5 for children under 10.
