Old Lyme — Members of the New London Currach Rowers demonstrated rowing an Irish currach Saturday at Rogers Lake.

Beforehand, they taught people on shore how to row one of the vessels at Hains Park. Later, two students at a time were able to go out in a currach with an instructor.

The event was sponsored by New London Currach Rowers with support from the Ancient Order of Hibernians and the Irish Coastal Club.

The vessels, which have a history that goes back hundreds of years, are made of canvas or animal hidse stretched over a wood or wicker frame.
