Montville High School temporarily appoints acting principal

Montville — High school Principal Heather Sangermano is out on medical leave and the Board of Education named a temporary replacement Monday night.

Current Vice Principal Robert Alves was appointed acting principal while retired principal Judy DeLeeuw was appointed as the coaching principal. DeLeeuw retired in 2017 after 35 years in education and 10 years as principal at East Lyme Middle School. She was named the Connecticut Association of Schools' Middle School Prinicipal of the year in 2015.

DeLeeuw also teaches school and district leadership at Central Connecticut State University to teachers who are aspiring to become administrators.

DeLeeuw introduced herself to the board Monday and said she was excited to be at the high school and be of some help.

Superintendent Laurie Pallin said Sangermano has been out for about a week but plans on returning once she recovers. She said the changes in administration are temporary.
