Coast Guard cadets prepare for Christmas with traditional service
New London — The traditional Service of Lessons and Carols returned to Cadet Memorial Chapel at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy Wednesday evening after skipping last year due to coronavirus precautions.
Members of the academy community, including cadets, family, staff members and leaders gathered for the service that tells the story of Christmas through scripture readings and song.
The Cadet Glee Club, under the direction of 2nd class Cadet Turner Linafelter, led the congregation through many of the traditional carols. Guest musicians, as well as the Cadet String Quartet, and 4th class Cadet Mattie Griswold on piano, provided additional music.
Following the service, attendees proceeded outside where 4th class Cadet Daniel Fredericks flipped the switch to light the academy Christmas tree.
