Waterworks, a free interactive kids event, comes to New London

New London — New England Science & Sailing Foundation, or NESS, and New London Recreation are hosting a free interactive and educational event for kids in kindergarten through fifth grades on Saturday.

Waterworks will be held from 10 a.m. to noon at the B.P. Learned Mission, 40 Shaw St.

The fun and innovative program will feature more than 15 creative hands-on activities such as: a marshmallow engineering challenge, take-home bird feeders, learn how to cast with a fishing pole, salt dough ocean animals, take-home ocean puppets, build ROVs (Remotely Operated Vehicles) and more.

“The goal is to bring science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) to life by providing a morning full of hands-on activities,” said Tara Slagley, NESS SEA AmeriCorps manager.

Community Partners at the event include Mystic Seaport Museum, Mentoring Corps for Community Development, Yellow Farmhouse Education Center, the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, Marine Science Club at Connecticut College, Living Sharks Museum, New London Youth Affairs and the Roger Tory Peterson Estuary Center.
