    Norwich celebrates Greek independence

    Norwich — The Greek flag waved in the breeze to the strains of the Hellenic Republic's national anthem in front of City Hall on Friday as part of an ongoing series of events hosted by Global City Norwich.

    George Grossomanides, a member of the local Greek community, raised the Greek flag after city officials gathered with other members of the Greek community to celebrate Greek Independence Day on Friday at David Ruggles Freedom Plaza in front of City Hall.

    The Hellenic Republic, founded in 1830, celebrates independence on March 25.
