New London to swear in new police recruit on Thursday

New London — The New London Police Department on Thursday will swear in its newest police officer candidate: 25-year-old Hunter Obermann.

Obermann will be welcomed to the city in a 1 p.m. ceremony, which is open to the public, at City Hall, 181 State St.

He is a Connecticut native who lives in Pawcatuck and is a reservist in the United States Marine Corps. He holds the rank of private 1st class (E-2) and is assigned to the 4th Marine Division 2/25 Fox Company 1st Platoon, 1st Squad. He is also a volunteer firefighter in the Pawcatuck Fire Department.

Obermann will start his 30 weeks of training at the Connecticut Police Academy on Friday.
