Enjoying the magical gardens of Harkness

Waterford — Kate Lamoureux and her 4-year-old son, Sam, of Salem were walking their 10-week-old Australian shepherd puppy, Pippin, through the gardens Saturday at Harkness Memorial State Park.

Kate Lamoureux said she likes to come to the park because it's a nice place to walk and is cooler than taking walks inland because of the breeze off the water, which also keeps most of the bugs away.

Sam enjoys the park because he thinks the mansion is the castle in the movie "Beauty and the Beast," one of his favorites, and also likes the sculptures in the East Garden. He also likes fish and wanted to see if there were any fish in the fountain of the West Garden.
