Creating works of art out of sand
Westerly ―The Atlantis Rising International Sand Sculpture Competition is taking place Friday through Monday at Misquamicut Beach in Westerly.
Tuesday ten artists started their sand sculptures and have until 6 p.m. Friday to finish. The total time they have to work on their sculptures is 40 hours. Judges will announce their choice for the winner of the competition that evening.
The public can also vote for their favorite sand sculpture and their winner will be announced on Monday.
The winner of the public’s favorite will receive $2,500 and the winner of the judges’ choice will receive $7,500. It is possible that an artist could win both prizes.
