Let’s Go: Blues guitarist Junior Mack coming to Norwich Arts Center

When people hear the name Junior Mack, the Jaimoe Jasssz Band most likely comes to mind as Junior was guitarist and lead singer of the Allman Brothers founding drummer’s band for over 15 years. Or perhaps they remember the time they saw Junior performing with Derek Trucks, Joe Louis Walker, Robert Randolph, the Allman Brothers Band, Government Mule, the Marshal Tucker Band, the late Lucky Peterson, the late David Honeyboy Edwards, or one of the other blues greats Mack has performed with.

People may be less likely to, but should think Heritage Blues Orchestra, the Grammy nominated band Junior Mack co-founded which put a unique spin on old time blues blending Delta, urban grit, gospel, and jazz-infused horn arrangements driven by the powerful rhythms of Grammy-award winning blues drummer Kenny “Beedy Eyes” Smith and churning rhythms of harmonica virtuoso Frenchman Vincent Bucher. Heritage brought Junior closer to where his true passion has always been: traditional blues.

Mack brings his acoustic guitar and soul stirring voice to the Norwich Arts Center’s Donald L. Oat Theater on Wednesday, March 8, at 7:30 p.m. For more information and tickets go to www.norwicharts.org.
