    Local roundup: Winkel helps Schooners rout Gulls 16-1

    Groton — Chris Winkel (UConn) had two hits, including a solo home run, with three runs and three RBI as the Mystic Schooners overwhelmed the Newport Gulls 16-1 in a New England Collegiate Baseball League game on Tuesday night.

    Mystic (13-9) scored eight runs in the second inning.

    Steven Barmakian (George Washington) had two hits, including a bases-clearing triple, with four RBI and two runs for the Schooners. Anthony Cruz (Quinnpiac) also had two hits, three runs and two RBI and James Proctor (Princeton) scattered four hits over four innings with four strikeouts and one earned run for the win.

    New York-Penn League

    • Darwin Alvarado had two hits, including a triple, with a run and an RBI as the Connecticut Tigers edged the Lowell Spinners, 4-3. Alexis Garcia tripled and scored for the Tigers (7-11) and Sam McMillan and Cameron Warner both singled and scored.

    SEC 16-18 Babe Ruth

    • Alec Donahue and Bret Wood combined to pitch a four-hitter with nine strikeouts as Waterford edged East Lyme 5-4. Ed Ryan led Waterford (1-2) with three hits while Jordan Hancock had two hits, including a double, and J.J. Brennan also had two hits. Napoleon Dreyfus had two hits for East Lyme (2-1).

    District 10 LL baseball (11-12)

    • Landon Hill struck out five as New London edged Montville 5-4 on Monday. Trevin Robeldo-Thompson and Calvin Sebastian both drove in a run for New London and Martin Light, Ralphie Sanchez, Hill, Robeldo-Thompson and Sebastian each had a hit. Ryan Ziegler had two hits for Montville and Mason Snurkowski struck out five in four innings. Joey Wainwright, Cole Terni, and Ben Godburn each had a hit, too.

    • Nick Lambert pitched a no-hitter and Nick Petrini had three hits as Waterford beat Pawcatuck 15-0 on Monday. Chris Meninno doubled for Waterford.

    • Alex Dreyfus pitched a three-hitter with 10 strikeouts as East Lyme beat Groton 8-0 on Monday. John Bureau went 3-for-3, including a double, for East Lyme and Connor Tukey went 2-for-3, including a double. Also, Peter Sherwood and A.J. Montejano each had an RBI. Nathan Virtue, Calvin McCoy, and Mychal Dole had hits for Groton.

    District 10 LL baseball (10-11)

    • Jace Wolfradt hit a home run and J.J. Torres had two hits and three RBI as Pawcatuck beat Mystic 12-2. Hagen Drake and Torres combined on a three-hitter for Pawcatuck. Jack DeLabry had a double and RBI for Mystic.

    • Lucas Saunders allowed two hits over 4.2 innings and Remy Coderre scored twice as Waterford beat East Lyme 7-5. Sean Kramer had two hits, including a double, Brady Sutman had two hits and centerfielder Cooper Sheehan threw out a runner at the plate for Waterford. Noah Farrior had three hits, Tyler Moore had two hits, including a double, and Jack Hayes and Tanner O’Brien each had two hits for East Lyme. Eric Diehl also tripled.

    District 10 LL baseball (9-10)

    • Winning pitcher Nicholas Cambi also had two hits and three RBI as East Lyme beat Montville 9-2 to win Game 1 of the best-of-three final. Ryan Wargo and Max Montejano both drove in a run for East Lyme. Jack Treat went 2-for-3 for Montville.

    District 10 LL softball (9-10)

    • Emma Robinson and Hailey Merrill combined to strike out seven as Groton/Mystic beat Salem 15-8 to advance to the championship series. Maerin Lyon had a home run and three RBI, Katie MacPherson had two RBI, and Jayden Stephens had an RBI double for Groton/Mystic. Violet Maziarz and Tatum Young combined to strike out eight and Gracie Lloyd and Maziarz both had a double and two RBI for Salem.
