    Local roundup: Potter leads New London past Old Lyme

    New London — New London put together an 18-hit attack and came away with a 14-6 win over Old Lyme in a nonleague softball game on Friday.

    Jaelynn Potter was 4-for-4 with a double, three RBI and two runs scored and Cassandra Roman, Finella Smith and Bria Fielding had three hits each for New London (5-4). Joe Potter added two hits and scored twice, Ella Cook drove in two runs, Roman homered, drove in two runs and scored twice, Fielding scored four times and Smith drove in two runs and scored three runs for the Whalers.

    Maddie Cann had two hits and Sarah Hayward doubled for Old Lyme (5-3).

    In other games:

    • Mackenzie Jones pitched a two-hitter eight strikeouts and added four hits and drove in four runs as Norwich Tech beat Ellis Tech 20-4 in a Connecticut Technical Conference game that ended in six innings on a mercy rule. Hannah Smith had two hits, including a three-run homer and Jones doubled, tripled and pitched a two-hitter for the Warriors (4-3, 4-0).

    H.S. baseball

    • Rob DelaCruz had two double twice and scored twice as Montville scored five runs in the top of the seventh inning to rally for an 8-6 win over East Lyme. Nick Calash had two hits and two RBI for Montville (7-1) and Colby Miner had two RBI. Chris Malcom hit a two-run homer, Trystan Levesque scored twice and Jake Schelkly had a two-run double for the Vikings (4-5).

    • Liam Flanagan had three hits, drove in two runs and was the winning pitcher as Old Lyme beat Stonington 7-1 in a nonleague game. Dan Kendall had two hits, including a two-run double, Jesper Silberberg had two hits, Eli St. Germain doubled and drove in a run and Flanagan had a double for the Wildcats (5-4).

    College baseball

    • Ryan Solimine and Roland Thivierge pitched Mitchell College to a doubleheader sweep of New England College in the New England Collegiate Conference. Solimine (6-1) pitched a four-hitter in the opener with six strikeouts and no walks as Mitchell won 5-0 and Thivierge (7-0) pitched a five-hitter with five strikeouts and two walks in a 6-1 win in Game 2.

    Eric Marriott, Markus Melendez and Montville's Dougie DelaCruz had three hits each and Steven Pagan drove in three runs for Mitchell (24-6, 8-1), which has won 11 straight and 21 of its last 22 games.

    College softball

    • Mitchell College was held to eight hits in an NECC doubleheader loss to Eastern Nazarene, losing the opener 2-1 and the second game 8-0. Nene Capeles had two hits for Mitchell (8-19, 1-9).

    Women's lacrosse

    • Bay Path beat Mitchell College 11-8 in an NECC game. Kate McCormack scored five goals and Francesca Pinard had a goal and two assists for Mitchell (1-8, 0-4). 

    H.S. boys' lacrosse

    • Cameron Gouvia and Scott Pion scored two goals each as St. Bernard/Wheeler beat Stonington 9-2 in an ECC Division II game on Thursday. Billy Niles had two goals and an assist, Cameron Riley had a goal and an assist and Zach Spiers had two assists for the Saints (5-2, 2-1).
