    Local roundup: Quiggle homers as Tigers beat Lake Monsters

    Burlington, Vt. — Kona Quiggle hit a two-run home run as the Connecticut Tigers beat the Vermont Lake Monsters on Tuesday night, 6-3, in a New York-Penn League game.

    Jake Holton had a single, two runs and an RBI for the Tigers (4-7) and Ryan Kreidler singled and scored twice. Cooper Johnson also doubled and scored, and Jack O'Loughlin scattered three hits over five innings with four strikeouts and one earned run to pick up his first of the season.

    Kyle McCann hit a two-run home run for the Lake Monsters (5-6).

    Black Wolves announce protected players

    The New England Black Wolves submitted their list of protected players to the league in anticipation of the National Lacrosse League Expansion Draft.

    Per league rules, the Black Wolves protected 11 players.

    New England's protected players are goalie Doug Jamieson, forwards Callum Crawford, Stephan Leblanc, Reilly O'Connor, Joe Resetarits and Dereck Downs as well as defensemen John LaFontaine, Adam Bomberry, Colton Watkinson, Jackson Nishimura and Nick Chaykowsky.

    These players will be unavailable for either the New York Riptide or the Rochester Knighthawks to select in in the NLL Expansion Draft on July 9th. The Knighthawks will select first overall as a result of winning the coin toss. There are 11 rounds of the expansion draft and a maximum of 22 players will be selected. No team can have more than two players selected.

    • The Three Rivers Sonics beat the Panera Pirates 9-8 in an Eastern Connecticut Major League game on Monday night. Anthony Viteritto was 2-for-3 with a double and four RBI, John Ryder was 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored, Sean Aimetti drove in two runs and Aaron Beeney scored three runs for the Sonics. Pete Aldrich was 3-for-3 and Ken Olszewski doubled and drove in three runs for the Pirates.

    District 10 LL baseball (8-10)

    • Dustin Powers allowed two hits and struck out nine over four innings and Colby Sheehan pitched the final two innings and struck out six as Waterford beat New London on Monday, 13-4. Kian Gordy had three hits and two runs, JT Sheppard, Riley Montana and Carson Gallerani all scored twice, and Andrew Benvenuti had two hits for Waterford. JJ Santiago had three hits and two runs for New London.

    District 10 LL softball (10-12)

    • Allie Cabral hit a walk-off RBI single as East Lyme edged Groton/Mystic in seven innings, 5-4. Abby Robinson struck out eight in six innings, winning pitcher Emma Baylor struck out three in the seventh, and Ava Roth tripled for East Lyme. Hailey Merrill struck out eight in six innings for Mystic/Groton and Katie MacPherson tripled.
