    Local roundup: Amaya scores three goals as Montville boys roll

    Montville — Cesar Amaya had three goals and an assist as Montville cruised to a 6-0 victory over Killingly in an ECC Division III boys' soccer match on Thursday.

    Zak Keenan added a goal and an assist for the Indians (3-2, 1-1) while Morgun Whittaker and Ayden Frechette each scored a goal, Liam Cook and Jacob Rose added assists and goalie Isaiah Gallagher made seven saves for the shutout.

    • Ian Spracklin scored three goals for Wheeler in its 4-0 win over Tourtellotte in an ECC Division IV game. Matt Pierce also scored for the Lions (2-3, 2-0).

    • Sam Lambert had two goals and an assist to highlight Fitch's 12-0 win over New London in an ECC Division II match. Caleb Robbins added two goals for the Falcons (5-2, 2-0) while Eric Leuchner had one goal and one assist and Sebastian Duffy, Alex DelCampo, Giovanni Valentine, Owen Henderson, Jayden St. Louis, Ian Roche and Thomas Forde each scored once. New London is 0-4, 0-3.

    • Nick Washington had four goals and one assist as Ledyard rolled past Windham 6-0. Daimon Pollard added a goal and two assists for the Colonels (4-1) while Alex Warmus scored a goal, Ben Fieldsend and Wes Hughes had assists and goalie Blake McLeod made five saves.

    • Jeremy Gibbs scored both goals for Waterford in its 2-0 victory over Bacon Academy in an ECC Division II match. Alex Ard assisted on the first goal for the Lancers (3-2, 2-1) and Oli Searle on the second. Goalie AJ Sachatello earned the shutout by making 11 saves.

    • Anthony Guadarmino and Kevin Vazquez scored second half goals to lift Grasso Tech to a 2-1 victory over Cheney Tech in the Connecticut Technical Conference. The Eagles (3-2) held a 22-7 edge in shots and goalie Gabe Berry made five saves.

    H.S. field hockey

    • Fitch rallied from a 2-0 deficit to defeat Waterford 4-3 in the ECC. After goals by Molly Quiles and Jess San Juan staked the Lancers (0-6, 0-4) to their first-half lead, Maddie O'Leary, Ella Bergendahl and Haley Rodgers scored goals to put the Falcons (3-4, 2-3) in charge before Hannah Buczkowski, assisted by Quiles, scored a late goal for Waterford.

    • Amity held off Stonington 2-1 in a match that was played in a heavy downpour. Olivia Monte converted a penalty corner late in the game for the Bears (4-2).

    H.S. volleyball

    • Woodstock Academy defeated East Lyme in three tough games, 26-24, 27-25 and 25-23, in an ECC Division I match. Sophie Dubreuil had 13 digs for the Vikings (1-4, 0-1) while Nina Sheehan finished with 15 digs and Mya Delesdernier had eight kills and six digs.

    • New London won it second match in as many days with a 25-22, 25-6, 25-18 nonleague win over Norwich Tech. Jayden Burns had 10 service points, four kills and six digs for the Whalers (2-3) while Caylee Parker added 12 points, three aces, six kills and three blocks, Stacey Rivera had 14 points, 12 assists and 10 digs, Chaylet Cintron had 12 points, six assists and five digs, and Ana Bella Matos had 10 assists, three blocks and five digs.

    College volleyball

    • No. 20 Wesleyan defeated Connecticut College 25-14, 25-14, 25-13 in the New England Small College Athletic Conference. Katie Howley had 10 kills and four digs for the Camels (4-6, 0-3) while Avery Light finished with five kills and Elle Kass had 10 digs.

    Men's hockey

    • UConn was picked to finish ninth in the Hockey East preseason poll which was released during its annual media day at TD Garden in Boston. Boston College was the preseason favorite, receiving eight first-place votes, followed by UMass, Providence, Northeastern, Boston University, UMass Lowell, New Hampshire, Maine, UConn, Vermont and Merrimack.

    The conference also announced a new agreement with NESN, which will televise the Huskies eight times during the 2019-20 season: Nov. 9 vs. Boston College, 3:30 p.m.; Dec. 12 vs. Vermont, 3:30 p.m.; Jan. 15 vs. Maine, 7 p.m.; Jan. 18 at Northeastern, 4 p.m.; Feb. 1 vs. New Hampshire, 4 p.m.; Feb. 15 at Maine, 7:30 p.m.; Feb. 22 at Boston University, 7 p.m.; and Feb. 29 at UMass, 8 p.m. The UMass game will air on NESNplus with the other seven game to be seen on NESN.
