    Local roundup: Fitch volleyball team beats East Lyme in ECC Division I match

    Groton — Nora Ryan had 21 kills, eight digs and four blocks as Fitch High School beat rival East Lyme 25-13, 25-12, 25-15 in an Eastern Connecticut Conference Division I volleyball match Wednesday night.

    The win avenged a 3-0 loss to the Vikings earlier in the season. Karly Morales added 32 assists, Nyseannah Ishmael seven kills and Aria Lupo eight digs for the Falcons (8-5, 3-3) while Shae McMunn had eight assists for East Lyme (7-6, 3-2).

    In other matches:

    • Ryleigh Gonyo had 19 kills and 11 digs as Waterford rolled to a 25-22, 25-16, 25-13 win over Ledyard in an ECC Division II match. Briana Muckle added 19 digs, Sabrina Kobyluck 22 assists and Lily Kramer five aces, five kills and three blocks for the Lancers (11-3, 4-2). Kira Kassim had seven kills and seven digs for Ledyard (8-7, 2-3) while Natalie Poulton added 10 digs and Codee Carroll 12 service points.

    • New London defeated Putnam 20-25, 25-15, 25-20, 25-16 in an ECC Division IV match. Chaylet Cintron had 20 service points and 16 digs for New London (6-6, 4-1) while Stacey Rivera added 14 points, 27 assists and nine digs, Lizbeth Nunez de la Cruz had 13 points and 18 assists, Caylee Parker had 17 points, eight kills and six blocks, Jayden Burns had four kills and 10 digs and Olivia Yard had four kills.

    • Griswold defeated Montville 25-12, 25-22, 25-21 in an ECC Division III match. Rori Curran had three kills, two blocks, six digs and one ace for the Indians (6-7, 1-3) while Kamryn Lathrop added seven kills and two blocks, Audrey Strmiska had four blocks and two kills, and Hanna Clark had 30 assists.

    • Samarie Delgado had five aces and six kills during Grasso Tech's 25-20, 25-18, 29-27 loss to Windham Tech in the Connecticut Technical Conference. Jazmyn Lopez added three aces and seven service points for the Eagles.

    • Norwich Tech rallied for a 22-25, 25-19, 25-19, 25-6 win over Ellis Tech in the CTC. Lauryn Heft had 14 service points, three aces, six assists and three digs for the Warriors (7-6, 7-2) while Joharys Perez-Rivera added seven points, three aces, seven kills, four digs and three assists.

    H.S. field hockey

    • Olivia Monte's first-half goal on a penalty corner, assisted by Sarah Flakus, carried Stonington to a 1-0 victory over Waterford in the ECC. Claire Evans made two saves in goal for the Bears (8-2-1, 8-0-1) while Nini Yangga stopped six shots for Waterford (2-9, 2-6).

    H.S. swimming

    • Old Lyme/Valley Regional/Old Saybrook won all three relays on the way to a 102-74 victory over Waterford. Lily Watson won the 200-meter freestyle (2:21.23) and 400 free (4:53.46) for Waterford (3-5) and teammate Elyse Gathy captured the 100 free (1:08.88) and 100 backstroke (1:14.52).

    • East Lyme remained unbeaten with a 95-72 win over Ledyard in the ECC on Tuesday night. Katie Keating won the 200 freestyle (2:13.01) and 100 free (59.27) for the Vikings (7-0, 6-0), who also picked up individual wins from Grace Liu (200 IM), Nikki Hahn (50 free), Grace Vlaun (100 butterfly), Atena Mendez (500 free), Alissa Li (100 backstroke) and Ashwini Sahasrabudhe (100 breaststroke). Ledyard (2-5, 2-4) won the 200 freestyle relay behind Tessa Finnegan, Erin Lyons, Aubrie Lozier and Robin Zemlo.

    College volleyball

    • Elms defeated Connecticut College 26-28, 25-22, 25-22 and 25-19 on Tuesday night. Christina LeDuc had 14 kills and eight digs for the Camels while Katie Howley had 11 kills and 18 digs, Elle Kass had 31 digs and Grace McGee had 26 assists.

    College honors

    • Mitchell College freshman Evan Carney, an NFA graduate, was named NECC Runner and Rookie of the Week in men's cross country. Carney ran a season-best time of 29:14.97 over the 8K course at the James Earley Invitational last week. He finished 13th overall in the blue race.

    • Lindsey Fairbank, a Mitchell junior, was named NECC Women's Soccer Player of the Week. Fairbank led the Mariners (4-7) in scoring last week with five goals and an assist for six points. She notched her second hat trick of the season and added an assist in an 8-0 win over Medgar Evers. She also recorded a pair of goals earlier in the week against SUNY Old Westbury.
