    Local roundup: T-More wins at National Prep Showcase

    New Haven — Jair Currie scored 21 points as St. Thomas More defeated Fork Union 63-54 in its first game in the National Prep Showcase men's basketball tournament at Albertus Magnus College on Friday.

    Chris Manon added 13 points and five rebounds for the Chancellors, who will play Skill Factory Academy of Atlanta in their final game of the tournament on Saturday at 10:30 a.m.

    In other games:

    • Waterford's Trevor Yeomans scored 21 points and had 10 rebounds at Avery Point beat Springfield Tech 71-65 on Thursday. Cyrus Sprague had 13 points, Mitchell Holdmeyer scored 10 and Tyler Zegray had seven assists and seven steals for the Pointers (3-5).

    Women's basketball

    • Caleigh Ryan had 23 points and 11 rebounds as Wesleyan defeated Mitchell College 76-67 in the opening round of the Weslyan Invitational. Amina Wiley scored 18 points for the Mariners, who play the loser of Friday's late game between Emerson and Wellesley in Saturday's consolation at 6 p.m., while Kelsey Hernandez added 17 points and New London's Leilani McClellan came off the bench to add 10 points and seven rebounds.

    • Rebekah Sanders of Quaker Hill had 25 points, 27 rebounds and nine steals as Avery Point beat Springfield Tech 80-66 on Thursday. Sarah Wisniewski had 24 points, nine rebounds, six assists and three steals, Kalianna Dingui had 13 points and six rebounds and Julitza Delgado had 10 points and seven rebounds for the Pointers (5-1), who have won five straight.
