    Local roundup: Stonington rolls to girls' track win over Lyman Memorial

    Lebanon — Stonington had four athletes win two individual events apiece as the Bears opened their 2021 season with an 82-57 girls' track and field victory over Lyman Memorial on Wednesday.

    Amelia Caron won the 100 and 300-meter hurdles, Nancy Inthasit the 100 and 200, Sophia Bell the shot put and javelin, and Lila Rich the high jump and pole vault for Stonington.

    Helen Blakeslee (1,600), Kate Anderson (800), Jessica Casey (3,200), Leah Comeroski (long jump) and Callie Nanos (triple jump) won events for the Bulldogs.

    In other girls' meets:

    • Jordan Malloy won the 800 and 1,600 as Bacon Academy defeated Fitch, 68-62. Catherine Misbach won the 100 hurdles and high jump and Jennifer Whipple won the shot put and javelin for the Bobcats. Amaris Johnson won the 100, 200, and 400 for the Falcons while Ashley Spreng won the 300 hurdles.

    • Jasmyn Bransford won two events in Norwich Free Academy's 75-72 loss to Woodstock Academy. Bransford won the 100 dash and the long jump for the Wildcats.

    • Brianna am Ende won the high jump (4 feet, 10 inches) and ran on two winning relay teams as East Lyme opened its season with a 98.5-50.5 win over Killingly. Caroline Daugherity, Alexa Torres, Julia Dewey and am Ende won the 4x800 (11.26.1) for East Lyme and Ashley Zelesky, Danielle Zelesky, Katherine Harris and am Ende teamed to win the 4x400 (4:37.9). Also, Hailey DeNucci won the javelin (82-3), Ashley Zelesky the 100 hurdles (18.3), Danielle Zelesky the 300 hurdles (52.1) and Lauren Hinckley the 200 (28.6). Jayla Washington, Aubrey Jorgensen, DeNucci and Hinckley won the 4x100 (53.7), too. Abigail Burgess won the 100 (13.1), the long jump (18-6.5) and triple jump (35-5) for Killingly.

    • Serena Britner won the 800, 1,600, 3,200 races to highlight St. Bernard's 94-35 win over New London. Katie Power added wins in the high jump and triple jump for the Saints and Lindsey Reilly won the shot put and discus. Kmara Royster won the 100 and 300 hurdles for the Whalers and Annisah White captured the 200 and long jump.

    Boys' outdoor track

    • Thomas Williams won the 100 and 200, also running a leg on the victorious 4x100 and 4x400 relays, as Fitch defeated Bacon Academy 94-54. Kheaven Kershaw also won two events for the Falcons (110, 300 hurdles). Peyton Adams won the long jump and Peter Walsh won the javelin for Bacon.

    • Josh Mooney won three events as Stonington defeated Lyman Memorial, 100-51. Mooney won the 100, the 110 hurdles and the 300 hurdles for the Bears while Luke Castonzo won the shot put and discus for the Bears. Shane Franson won the 3,200 for the Bulldogs.

    • Brendan Fant won the long jump (18-9.5), the 3,200 (10:49.3) and won on the winning 4x800 relay team as East Lyme opened its season with a 110-40 win over Killingly. Blake Harris won the 110 hurdles (19.3) and javelin (116-6), Magnum Brandt won the 400 (55) and he, Noam Sokolovsky, Fisher Macklin and Kai Ritz teamed to win the 4x400 (3:50.5) for East Lyme. Beck Schultz, Macklin, Ritz and Fant also won the 4x800 (9:50.5).

    • Jahryn Harkness and Daniel Duperval were triple winners as New London outlasted St. Bernard 75-65. Harkness won the 110 hurdles (17.47), the 100 dash (11.29) and 200 (24.29) for the Whalers while Duperval captured the shot put (41-11), discus (121-1) and javelin (92-3). Marquise White added wins in the 300 hurdles (44.06) and 800 (2:19) for New London.

    H.S. softball

    • Caylee Parker pitched a two-hitter in New London's 2-0 loss to Killingly. Parker struck out six and walked one for the Whalers (0-3). Cassandra Roman went 2-for-3 with a triple for New London.

    H.S. baseball

    • Bo Yaworski and Justin Baker had three hits apiece as Killingly defeated New London, 10-3. Kenny Miller doubled and scored for New London (0-3) and Bebo Martinez had two hits.

    • Colbe Andrews had two hits for Old Lyme and Maverick Swaney pitched 6.2 innings in Old Lyme's 3-0 Shoreline Conference loss to Coginchaug. The Wildcats are 0-3.

    • Colby Livingston had three hits, including a double, as Putnam beat Wheeler, 14-3, in an ECC Division II game. Matt Pierce and Jon Anderson both singled for Wheeler (0-2, 0-2).

    H.S. golf

    • Tyler Radford shot a team-best 46 and Montville defeated Fitch 4.5-2.5 at Norwich Golf Course. The Indians are 1-0. Medalist Jack Kramer shot 45 for Fitch (1-1).

    • Medalist Brandon Tavares shot 44 as Stonington defeated New London, 7-0, in ECC Division I. Justin Holland shot 47 for the Bears (1-1,1-1). New London is 0-1, 0-1.

    Boys' tennis

    • George Danes, Charles Hinckley and Griffin McGlinchey all won their singles matches in two sets as Old Lyme beat Cromwell 5-2 in the Shoreline Conference. Regan Kaye and Will Danes won at doubles for Old Lyme (3-1, 3-1) as did the team of Mike Klier and Sam Koenigs.

    • Sujesh Kurumbail, David Li and Daniel Sapoznikov won in singles as East Lyme defeated New London, 7-0, in ECC Division I. Guillem Colom and Rohan Purohit won in doubles for the Vikings (1-0, 1-0), who also won three matches by forfeit.

    Girls' tennis

    • Yurina Shirai and Alissa Li won the first and second singles matches, respectively, in two sets in East Lyme opened its season with a 7-0 win over New London in an ECC Division I match. Ritisha Ande and Riddhi Bansal won their doubles match for the Vikings. The Whalers are 0-2, 0-2.

    • Abigail Sicuranza, Callie Bass, Sam Tan and Livie Bass each won their singles matches in two sets as Old Lyme shutout Cromwell 7-0 in a Shoreline Conference match. The Wildcats (3-0, 3-0) also had doubles wins from Lauren Wallace and Alexis Fenton, Fiona Hufford and Izzy Reynolds and Sophia Ortoleva and Elaina Morosky.

    • Sarah Hage, Autumn Brothers and Alli Silva won in singles as Waterford defeated Ledyard, 6-1 in ECC Div. I. Jen Leblanc-Michelle Liu, Nitya Somienini-Jaiuleen Barber and Joyce Mak-Ella Briggs won in doubles for the Lancers (1-1, 1-1). Hannah Jones won No. 4 singles for the Colonels (1-1, 0-1).

    Boys' lacrosse

    • Dylan Relaz scored a pair of goals in Norwich Tech/Windham Tech's 12-6 loss to Classical/Capital. Zackary Dziekan, Demetri Ryan, Jeremiah Irizarry and Owen Traylor also scored goals for the Warriors (0-2).

    Women's lacrosse

    • Jade Shields scored the game-winning goal 36 into overtime as Mitchell edged Albertus Magnus on Wednesday night, 13-12. Shields had three goals and two assists and Joe Schley scored five times for Mitchell (2-3). Dominick Reposa added three goals and Marcel Quinlan had 19 saves.
