McQuade's Marketplace wants to sell beer, wine in its cafeteria

Mystic — McQuade’s Marketplace is seeking a special use permit from the Stonington Planning and Zoning Commission so it can begin selling beer and wine at the popular cafeteria inside the Clara Drive supermarket.

The commission has slated a May 16 public hearing on the request.

The application for the permit states that store owner Michael McQuade has received requests from his customers to begin selling beer and wine in the cafeteria.

In addition, the store is seeking permission to sell beer in its aisles, something which it currently does not do. The Cask & Keg, a package store that sells beer, wine and liquor, is in the McQuade’s building.

The application states that the sale of beer and wine will not result in any significant change to the layout of the supermarket, its parking or traffic flow. The hours of operation will remain the same, with the cafeteria open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and the supermarket from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.
