Malloy wants group to study use of Rocky Hill VA campus

Gov. Dannel P. Malloy said Monday he is forming an advisory group to review "the most effective use of the Department of Veterans Affairs Rocky Hill campus in order to support Connecticut's at-risk veterans' population."

This year's budget includes $500,000 to assess the current facilities and possible additional housing in Rocky Hill. Lt. Gov. Nancy Wyman will chair the group. Members for southeastern Connecticut include the Veterans Affairs commissioner, Linda Schwartz, and Lisa Tepper Bates of Stonington, executive director of the CT Coalition to End Homelessness.

Members of the state Department of Veterans Affairs' Board of Trustees, including John G. Casey Jr. of Groton, will be invited to participate, the statement from the governor's office said.

The governor has said he is committed to eliminating chronic homelessness among veterans.

The group is expected to hold its first meeting in September.
