Coast Guard announces new commander of Sector Long Island Sound

New York — Cmdr. Kevin B. Reed was promoted to captain and has become the new commander of Coast Guard Sector Long Island Sound in New Haven, the Coast Guard announced in a news release on Thursday.

Rear Adm. Steven D. Poulin officiated the ceremony at Sector Long Island Sound, formally making Reed unit commander. Poulin also relieved the previous commander, Capt. Andrew Tucci.

As sector commander, Reed is responsible for seven small boat stations, three Coast Guard cutters, two navigation team aids and a marine safety detachment, the Coast Guard said.

Reed previously was deputy of Sector Long Island Sound. He was appointed to assume command of the sector in February, when Tucci was temporarily removed from command and reassigned to the Coast Guard's Research and Development Center in New London, a Coast Guard release had said at the time.
