The U.S. Coast Guard Band presents its holiday concerts

For most civic or professional orchestras or school choirs or even shopping mall carolers, one Christmas program is hard enough to master.

Leave it to the maestros of the United States Coast Guard Band, though, to conceptualize two holiday concerts. Indeed, on Sunday, the Coasties will present a bipartite selection of seasonal music in Leamy Hall on the academy campus.

For the afternoon matinee, Assistant Director Chief Warrant Officer Richard E. Wyman heads up a family-friendly production boasting material from "How the Grinch Stole Christmas," "The Night Before Christmas," "Sleigh Ride" - and a special appearance from Santa.

The evening program features Soprano Soloist Musician 1st Class Megan Weikleenget and arrangements of seasonal fare such as Tchaikovsky's "Nutcracker Suite," "O Holy Night," "I'll Be Home For Christmas" and many more. In addition, former Coast Guard Band Director Lewis Buckley has arranged a sing-along for the entire crowd.
