    Live shows at the O'Neill

Alas, the Eugene O’Neill Theater Center in Waterford won’t be holding staged readings of plays and musicals this summer, as it had done yearly until the pandemic struck.

But it IS offering live performances, in the form of solo performances by O’Neill alums.

“Garden Gatherings” will take place on four Sunday afternoons, starting this weekend, in the O’Neill’s lovely Sunken Garden.

First up is Michael R. Jackson, who won a Pulitzer Prize last year for the musical "A Strange Loop," for which he wrote the book, music and lyrics. He also wrote the book, music and lyrics for "White Girl in Danger," and has won a Jonathan Larson Grant and a Lincoln Center Emerging Artist Award, among other honors. He will be joined by pianist Sean Cameron at the O'Neill.

The rest of the "Garden Gatherings" include: a performer to be announced on June 20; Rebecca Hart and The Wrong Band on July 11; and Satya Chavez and Esco Jouley on July 18.

Concert-goers should bring their beach blankets or chairs with them, and they will sit in distanced circles that are marked on the grass. Each ticket allows up to six members of a household or bubble.

Masks and social distancing are required.

No outside food or beverages will be allowed, but concessions will be available on site.

"Garden Gatherings," 4 p.m. June 13, 20 and July 11, 18; tickets $25 (you can bring up to six people); garden is open at 3 p.m. for entry; www.theoneill.org/summer or email BoxOffice@theoneill.org.
