The High Kings bring their Irish sound to the Garde Saturday

    The High Kings (Contributed)

The High Kings were sooooooooo close to performing at the Garde Arts Center before.

That was for their originally scheduled date of March 20, 2020. Well, you know what happened then.

After a couple of postponements, The High Kings are set to really, no-kidding, honest-to-goodness be in concert at the Garde Saturday.

This group of four singers from Ireland — Finbarr Clancy, Brian Dunphy, Martin Furey and Darren Holden — has a harmony-drenched traditional-Gaelic-meets-modern-world sound that has led them to chart-topping success. Their first album, in 2008, hit #2 on Billboard’s World Music Chart, and it hung out on the chart for 36 weeks.

Each of them were involved in hugely popular projects before they formed The High Kings. Clancy toured with the Clancy Brothers. Dunphy was in “Riverdance” and then became a member of The Three Irish Tenors. Holden likewise was in “Riverdance” (in his case, on Broadway). Furey was in the band Bohinta before The High Kings.

The concert is co-presented by the Garde and the Katharine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center.

The High Kings, 8 p.m. Saturday, Garde Arts Center, 325 State St., New London; $29-$59; masks and proof of vaccination or negative PCR test required; (860) 444-7373, gardearts.org.
