Goodspeed returns with Festival of New Musicals
The Goodspeed Festival of New Musicals has long been held in January, but this year, it moves to March, with a slate of three musicals in development.
And, of course, this also marks a return for the festival after the pandemic kept it from happening in 2021.
The staged readings are:
— “A House Without Windows,” 7:30 p.m. Friday.
Book by Anna Ziegler, music and lyrics by Anna Jacobs
A former child prodigy author goes missing at age 25, having left her apartment with only $30 and a light overcoat.
— “HoT,” 7:30 p.m. Saturday
Music by Lynne Shankel, words by Sara Cooper
It is “a darkly comic, through-composed feminist adaptation of ‘Helen of Troy’ featuring an all-women+ cast," according to Goodspeed.
— “The Gunfighter Meets His Match,” 1 p.m. Sunday
Book, music and lyrics by Abby Payne
A ranch hand turns up at a Wild West boom town, trying to understand the truth behind the stories about a gunfighter who made the town famous.
The festival also features theater-related seminars on Saturday morning and a 3:30 p.m. Saturday symposium about “Goodspeed and the Racial Equity Movement in Theatre.”
