Ivoryton Playhouse stages ’Ring of Fire’

Ivoryton Playhouse is focusing on the life and essence of a music icon in its latest production.

The theater is presenting onstage “Ring of Fire: The Music of Johnny Cash” starting Thursday, and the show traces the Man in Black’s dramatic history and storied career. The show, conceived by William Meade and created by Richard Maltby, Jr., boasts 38 of Cash’s songs, including “Ring of Fire,” “I Walk the Line,” “I’ve Been Everywhere” and “Hurt.”

This isn’t a traditional biography, and there’s no real Cash character. Instead, all the musicians perform Cash songs.

“Ring of Fire: The Music of Johnny Cash,” Aug. 11-Sept. 11, Ivoryton Playhouse, 103 Main St., Ivoryton; 7:30 p.m. Wed. and Thurs., 8 p.m. Fri. and Sat., and 2 p.m. Wed. and Sun.; $55 for adults, $50 seniors $25 students; (860) 767-7318.
