5 Seconds of Summer come to the Sun

More than one boy band has been fashioned by outside forces — a record producer or a TV show, with an example of the latter being One Direction and “The X Factor.”

5 Seconds of Summer, though, was self-created. Luke Hemmings, Michael Clifford and Calum Hood joined forces in Australia when they were all in high school together in 2011. Ashton Irwin added in not that much later. They put their covers of songs on a YouTube channel and played pubs to hone their skills. When their first EP, “Unplugged,” made it to #3 on the iTunes chart in Australia, well, record companies took notice.

5 Seconds of Summer took off from there, cranking out hit after hit. Their latest album is “The Feeling of Falling Upwards — Live from The Royal Albert Hall,” which was released in April.

The group is out on tour, too, and will give a concert Thursday at Mohegan Sun — so, yes, it’s Summer at the Sun.

5 Seconds of Summer, 8 p.m. Thursday, Mohegan Sun Arena; with Meet Me @ The Altar; $59.50-$89.50; mohegansun.com.
